Personal History and Interests

In October 2023, Dr. Elizabeth Ferguson, was among a group of 63 esteemed surgical educators inducted into the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.

A DMG physician specializing in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Ferguson joined the teaching faculty at Valleywise Health in 2010 and cares for patients in the Valleywise Health Breast Cancer Clinic. Her practice focuses on reconstructive breast surgery for breast cancer survivors.

As the general surgery program director at Valleywise Health and the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for Creighton University School of Medicine in Phoenix, Dr. Ferguson laid the foundation for Creighton programs in Phoenix that now train more than 330 residents and fellows each year.

“You are the first female program director I have met, and given your sincere, whole-hearted motivations and passions, I can honestly say this is the first time I have left a surgeon's office thinking, 'This woman is exactly who I want to be when I grow up,'” a Creighton medical student shared in a hand-written note to Dr. Ferguson.
